EasterEASTER DAY - Page 3

O crucified and risen Lord
Destroy the bonds that bind us tight
Release us from our greed and pride
And lead your people into light.
Born, we must be reborn,
Living, we must learn to live.

From dawdling by an empty tomb,
From eyes that look and fail to see,
From fear of death and fear of life
Lord set your foolish people free.
Chorus

From thinking heaven's far away,
From fearing change and fearing strife,
From clinging to a world that's past,
Lord lead your people into life.
Chorus

O triumph, found beyond defeat,
O good, men dream in evil days,
O love, no evil could destroy,
Possess our lives and shape our ways.
Chorus

O crucified and risen Lord,
You are the Life, the Truth, the Way
Let Easter dawn blaze on our souls
And make us children of the day.
Chorus

Sing my song backwards from end to beginning,
Friday to Monday, from dying to birth.
Nothing is altered, but hope changes everything:
sing "Resurrection!" and "Peace upon Earth!"

Whisper a hope through the fear in Gethsemane,
horror and emptiness darker than night;
visit the wounds, and the failure of Calvary:
sing "Resurrection!" and bathe them in light.

Gather the bones and the sinews of memory—
healings and parables, laughter and strife,
joy with the outcasts and love for the enemy—
breathe "Resurrection!" and dance them to life.

Stretch out a rainbow from cross to nativity.
Deck out the stable with shepherds and kings,
angels and miracles, glory and poetry—
Sing my song backwards, till all the world sings!

The glory of our King was seen
When he came riding by,
And all the children waved and sang
'Hosanna, King most high'.

1AThe glory of our King was seen
When he came riding by,
And poeple ran and waved and sang
'Hosanna, King most high'.

The glory of our King was seen
When, with his arms stretched wide
To show his love to everyone,
Jesus was crucified.

The glory of our King was seen
On the first Easter day,
When Christ rose up, set free from death,
To love, to guide, to stay.

The God of Bethlehem praise
Who sent his son to earth
And chose King Herod's dangerous days
To grant him birth
Who poured into his youth
All mercy, love and truth
Displayed throughout that life's full span
The perfect Man.

The God of Jordan praise
Who willed him live for all
And chose John Baptist's greatest days
To seal his call
The Mission then began
To every race of Man
The kingdom's grace was soon defined
for all mankind.

The God of Hermon praise
Where man gained deepest sight
He chose the prime of Peter's days
And proved him right
With Jesu's radiant face
And saints of Israel's race
The mighty voice proclaimed him 'son'
And faith was won.

The God of Calvary praise
Who took the servant's part
And chose poor Pilate's cruellest days
To bare his heart
Spread-eagled there above
His death proclaimed his love
Displays the truth for all to see
His care for me.

The God of Easter praise
He knew our feeble plight
And chose the most effectual ways
To prove his might
He shattered death's fresh hold
And back the tombstone rolled
The Lord was loosed, the Lord is free
And lives for me.

The God of glory praise
He reigns in sovereign power
He'll choose from all his wealth of days
His final hour
He'll draw his people in
Purge out creation's sin
Remove all pride and pain and war
For evermore.

The language of the Hebrews
is right-to-left in print;
the end is the beginning,
their books are back to front.

The end is the beginning:
at Easter it began;
our life is topsy turvy,
for Jesus lives again.

Our life is topsy turvy,
the world is upside down.
The news that Christ is risen
has made us go to town.

The news that Christ is risen
has made the people's day!
We turn our hand to living;
the stone is rolled away.

The Lord is risen.
The Lord is ris'n indeed!
Alleluia, alleluia!

Christ our Paschal Lamb has been sacrificed
Let us therefore celebrate the feast
Not with the old leav'n of malice and evil
But with th' unleaven'd bread of sincerity and truth.
Antiphon

For we know that Christ being raised from the dead,
Death no longer has dominion over him
He died to sin once for all
But the life he lives he lives to God.
Antiphon

So consider yourselves dead unto sin
And alive to God in Christ Jesus
But in fact Christ has been rais'd from the dead
The first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.
Antiphon

For as by a man came death
By a man has come also resurrection of the dead
For as in Adam all die
So also in Christ shall all be made alive.
Antiphon

The wall is down, for Christ destroyed it;
no longer strangers, we are one.
The earth is round, so let's enjoy it
and join the circle with the Son.

The wall is down, for Christ created
a single people, ruled by peace;
where love is found and hate defeated,
the world becomes an open house.

The wall is down, but strong foundations
are laid for newness, life in hope:
a house of prayer for all the nations
providing room for growing up.

The wall is down, the Lord of Easter
rebuilds the temple in three days,
and life becomes a time of feasting;
the scene is set for boundless praise.

There are songs for us all to sing —
Sing them loud and clear:
Songs of joy and hope and peace,
Of courage and good cheer.
As the love of the Lord floods our hearts
This is where our worship starts:
With the song of praise creation sings
To all with ears to hear.

There's a song for us all to sing —
Sing it loud and clear:
It's the gospel song we sing
All seasons of the year.
How the Word became flesh for our sakes:
Of the difference Easter makes;
It's the song of joy we Christians sing
To all with ears to hear.

There's a song for us all to sing —
Sing it loud and clear:
It's the song we sinners sing
As the Lord of life draws near;
When the sheep that is lost will be found;
And the son is homeward bound;
lt's the song of hope we Christians sing
To all with ears to hear.

There's a song for us all to sing —
Sing it loud and clear:
It's the song we are bold to sing
Of the love that casts out fear;
Of the Spirit who makes us all one;
And of freedom to be won;
It's the song of peace we Christians sing
To all with ears to hear.

Waking from sleep, the Lord leapt up on high!
Hell, do you hear our glad morning cry:
From the dead, Christ is arisen!
Our God arose and his enemies, helpless,
suddenly melted like wax in a furnace:
From the dead, Christ is arisen!

This is the day which the Lord God has made,
Let Christians praise God's great work displayed:
From the dead Christ is arisen!
Let all the churches bless God's loving kindness,
drinking from Israel's fountain with gladness:
from the dead, new life is springing!

Dance for the Lord, bless his wonderful name,
Saviour whose penance removes our shame:
From the dead, Christ is arisen!
Come unbelievers, and know every nation,
right to the ends of the earth, his salvation;
from the dead, Christ has arisen.

Angels were filled with delight at the sight,
lightning from heaven tore through hell's night:
From the dead, Christ is arisen!
Seeing the dead host come marching behind him,
they all cried, 'welcome and honour' and praised him:
'from your death, new life is risen!'

This is the joy of all those who must die,
heavenly sound on earth, rising high:
From the dead, Christ is arisen!
Dying he trod on death's neck, and in future
those who receive his grace live on for ever,
from the dead, with Christ, arisen!

So, alleluias ring ten thousandfold,
age after age, the good news is told:
From the dead, Christ is arisen!
who, before taking his seat in high heaven,
sowed his eternal joy here and made certain,
from the dead we shall rise with him!

Where are all the brave men?
All run away;
Women alone have
Courage to stay;
Soldiers' guard with spear and sword
Cannot keep them from their Lord.

Dead lies the shepherd,
Scattered the sheep;
Only the weak ones
Still vigil keep.
Love has brought them safely here,
Perfect love that drives out fear.

Make us all sharers,
Lord, of your pain,
Then of your glory,
Risen again;
Grief must hold a passing sway,
Joy return with Easter Day!

Winter rolls past.
Leaves and flowers open fast.
Easter will come at last.
Hallelujah!
